Having a lovely trip so far. Flew in today and the owner, Michael, picked me up from the train station in Skövde. Incredibly nice guy and the car is exactly how he described it.
Honest M5 in original condition, no rust to speak of, some surface stuff underneath but easily cleaned up. Jacking points, fenders, doors, sides skirts... rust free. It was entirely repainted at one point, but it's an old car and it doesn't bother me, the paint job seems good. Interior is in great shape for the age and kilometers.
It's been unregistered since 2012 so it'll need a lot of maintenance but nothing out of the ordinary. I drove it and it feels good, the engine is very healthy.
Perfect project to do on the channel and show off the almighty E39 M5.
I'm loving Sweden. Everyone speaks English and is super friendly. Hospitality I got from Michael and his family is amazing. Homemade cinnabons were waiting for me and for dinner, they fired up the grill! He showed me around his small beautiful town, Timmersdala, as well. I'm also staying in their guest room. Overall a really pleasant experience.
I filmed all of it so the road trip video is coming soon!
I'm up since 6 am and I'm beat. Gonna get some sleep and heading back home tomorrow!
