It is always so sad and impressive seeing how the 86 find joy in the little things and go from dealing with the most depressing things to joking around right after. The show highlights this a lot, especially in the first season where squad mates were dying and then the next second they were playing games or basketball. Just hammers home how much death they have seen, and how much they had to adapt to be able to function and not succumb to despair.

Also, their pararaid implants were removed when they were rescued, Giad reverse engineered those and developed the wearable version they use now.
