2022-10-15 03:01:24 +0000 UTCYour definitely right that Roku dosn't belive everything about the fire nation is bad but that when he saw the way Sozin was going politically that he knew just being he's friend wasn't enough to stop himself from getting involved. I also think that maybe the reason for Sozin's eventual turn in the end might have been because thier relationship had never truly been equal before. It's sadly quite common that some "high status" people can seem to genuinely care about thier "lower status" friends when those friends are shy & more of a "follower" to thier confident "leader" but once those friends start getting recognition in thier own right & actually thinking for themselves instead of just agreeing with whatever their friend says then the high status friend suddenly dosn't know what to do & then starts becoming resentful because most of their friendships involved them actually (wether consciously or not) belivering that they were just slightly "better" then thier friends & so the "high status" friend thrives when thier "low status" friends weren't confident & needed thier guidance on or approval over things but when the high status friend realises that they're no longer the one "in charge" anymore & they can't stand it because they feel like thier power is being taken away (think the kid at school who couldn't stand anything good happening to other kids or the people who help out with charity but only to make themselves look good & don't actually care at all about the people needing thier help). I think Sozin was ok with the marriage & the Avatar reveal because 1. he wasn't intrested in that girl at all & 2. he honestly assumed that Roku would always choose what was "best" for the Fire Nation over what was best for the world despite knowing he's the litrual Avatar because Sozin was probably so used to Roku's loyalty over the years that he genuinely thought it would be automatic even when it came to starting a war.
