Lights Out is nightmare inducing, must see ♥️ also gotta do a write in for Crimson Peak. It's technically gothic romance rather than horror, but Guillermo del Toro knows how to treat his horror fans and does not disappoint.

REC is phenomenal and it seems not well known amongst non horror fans. When it inevitably doesn’t win this poll, please consider doing it anyways at some point. Make sure it’s the subtitled version though, and not the dub which is atrocious. It Follows is also very good. Lights Out conversely is the epitome of cheap attempts at scares, by the numbers filmmaking, and poor characterization in horror. I saw it in the theater when it came out and would probably have walked out if not with friends. It has a few good ideas but that’s all. The short it was based on is worth watching much more than spending so much time on the feature length version.
