The Black Phone UNEDITED REACTION (early access)

When I saw this at the theater I had NO expectations for it, like you guys I knew very little, I knew it was about a abduction and that the ghosts communicate over the phone but that was it and I only saw it because I'm an Ethan Hawk fan and I couldn't believe how much I loved it, probably one of my favorite movies I've seen in a while. I love when that happens, a similar movie that did that for me was 10 Cloverfield Lane which I HIGHLY suggest. I wouldn't say this is a straight up horror film but more as a very suspense thriller with a lot of horror elements, I will admit some scenes did make me jump and I don't usually jump in movies. I loved that you never really learn anything about the Grabbert, it's clear he has an identity issue, it's the most clear for me when his mask is taken off at the end but other then that he is so vague and to me that just makes him far more scarier and also with the Grabber he felt like a real serial killer. I've watched quite a few documentaries about abducted victims who have said that they're capture would try to trick them too, to test them. Also the way he was abducting them seemed very real and it was scary how fast he did it. All the masks were so creepy and I like that each mask kind of represented what kind of mood he was in. The relationship between the siblings was so good, especially the ending, the way she just hugged him was so sweet and you felt her relief and I also I love that even though he could be a changed man now it doesn't mean they are automatically going to forgive their father, it's going to take more then him crying and it's clear for now they are just going lean on each other. The interactions with Fynn and all the ghosts were great. I liked they gave them all different personalities, some seemed scared, lost and angry and I love that everything they told him does help him get away in the end even if he didn't know why at the time. His breakdown scene is so tragic, he hadn't really done that the whole movie and you felt that he was giving up and what a perfect time to bring in Robin. I like they started with Bruce who he personally kind of knew to gain some trust and ends with an actual friend who truly wanted to help him survive and also like he said help them get justice. My favorite scene is definitely when he's teaching him to punch, the way they have them do that in unison was so well done, that is not easy to do. The acting is also great from everyone, the kids and Ethan Hawk.
