I love this movie. It brings back so many childhood memories - gathering with my cousins and sitting in front of the television to watch it while eating tarts and drinking hot cocoa. Today, if someone had the proper love for this movie.

Naw I didn’t think it was that cringy tbh, it was just a tad dated with the pacing and what not

That’s so cool

I still love this movie. Yes, parts of the story are a bit cringy and dated, but it is a major feat that they were able to pull this off. Everyone thought Disney was out of his mind, and he was going to lose all his money on this one. He was definitely a true visionary!

I think today we look at Snow White and think of it as a little dated, but we forget that Snow White was a ground breaking film. Nobody had ever attempted a feature length animation and the other Hollywood studios called it Disney's Follie. No one believed it could work and indeed new technology such as the multi-plane camera, were first employed on the making of Snow White to make the film a success. Snow White made $8 million dollars on its original release and literally built Walt Disney Studios.

This was the first movie my grandma ever saw in theaters. She said the evil queen/hag gave her nightmares, and I can certainly see why! And it just dawned on me that Sneezy has a an Airbender-worthy sneeze ;-)

So basically, from the dvd bonus content, at least from back in the day, Disney claims they don't rotoscope ever but use live actors for mere reference. Disney animators also didn't have the skill needed for Snow White , so they were made to go back to school for animation which was created at the studio to learn and develop new techniques for motion, realism, and so on. The women were in charge of ink and paint, and to get the blush on Snow's cheek right they used their own blusher. And Disney was like, "that's great but, can you keep it consistent?" And they were like, "what do you think we do everyday?". The prince was also a difficulty, he was going to have a bigger part, where he gets captured with an escape scene and all, but princes were too hard to animate then, without them looking too "feminine" or "rough", so his part was kept as minimal as possible. The actress that portrayed Snow White, her father was a singing teacher and one day she heard him talking to Walt on the phone about finding a girl for the part, so she started singing loud enough from another room for Walt to be like "that's the one". Snow White was a big risk and people kept saying it was going to fail. It took a lot of money and Walt was forced to put his house on mortgage. All of this was also during the Great Depression. Snow White was the first animated feature film ever (and first film in color I think), so it had a huge Hollywood premier where big names like, Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin, Hedy Lamarr and more were in attendance. It became the highest grossing movie ever, until Gone With the Wind. The celebrity audience back then, viewed it as a real movie, and apparently Clark Gable cried during the mourning scene. Snow White won an (honorary) Oscar a big one and seven little ones and got a star on the Walk of Fame. And in todays money, it is the 10th highest grossing movie of all time, beating out every marvel movie, the Star Wars sequels and more.
