I'm late to this, but wanted to mention that the head measuring is an old anthropology science. They'd measure different peoples head to try to prove intelligence, charisma, madness etc. It was debunked though. The statistics showed no correlation. Let alone causation.

One of my favorite Sokka lines, out of many to choose from :-) It's fitting that this episode is pretty much the middle of the entire series, as it marks a big turning point in the overall story. Regarding energy drinks, I use and love a brand called XS Energy - zero sugar, lots of B Vitamins, plenty of delicious flavors, and about the same caffeine as a cup of coffee. But it's only available online, so if you're interested in more info, I'd be happy to share in a separate message :-)

Earth benders who lived in the desert must have adapted to bending sand and we get to see how it is different to earth. We also got to see how Toph struggled with sand compared to regular earth. She did do some sand bending when she was trying to defend Appa, but it showed that she struggled with it since she had trouble "seeing" with the sand.
