OK, I agree, removing choice from that person shouldn't be anyone's decision to make. With good there also comes bad, and good cannot thrive if not given a chance. Good discussion, you made me see things in other way. Next episode is good, I won't spoil anything. Just Sokka is my favorite. Enough said.

Just because evil exists doesn't mean we should eliminate the possibility for good. In fact I would argue that that attempt to remove that choice might even be evil in and of itself

I can see that, knowledge itself isn't dangerous, just how a person uses it. My question, do we take that chance to let people make that decision on how to use that knowledge? I mean let's be realistic, people aren't always good. There's always few bad leaders in the world that's going to abuse that knowledge to have an advantage on their enemy, and dispose of that knowledge or people who have it to make sure that information goes forgotten. And that written history is forgotten, only being remembered by witnesses.

I would argue that is what gives knowledge value. Is that pople strive against their better instincts to learn for learning stake. If people didn't abuse it, we woudn't value people who use it. Also, much like saving money forever, knowledge is meant to be used. To just keep knowledge for yourself is selfish and defeats the nature of knowledge IMO. Even if bad things are done with knowledge, goods thinsg are as well

I like these episodes of The Desert. This may sound a bit cynical but I kind of agree with the owl. If we are talking about general knowledge, yes, humans learns things, make things better to make it more efficient, all it takes is a person with malicious intention to use it for harm and turn into a weapon. As a history nerd, I understand the professor's excitement and dedication to his life to knowledge. It's heartbreaking when you learn so many things we have learned is to get better on other humans. For example, Space Race in the 1960's against Russia. Sure, the Nasa scientists were interested in the science of it and to be the first humans to walk the moon. But there was also a race to get to it before Russia did. And it takes what I call an "old soul" to learn just for knowledge sake.
