2022-08-06 05:53:21 +0000 UTCI also think it's so impactful how they showed the way war creates hatred of an entire group of people and how this hatred can permeate through all parties involved. The boy saying that he hated Zuko is really devastating, but that's because he has connected Zuko with the nation that is responsible for his brother's assumed death. This isn't the first time they've explored this idea—the derivation of terrorism in the Jet episode being one example, and in future eps to come.

2022-08-05 22:01:30 +0000 UTCThere is a lot of visual storytelling with dualism in depicting Zuko's character throughout the series. This ep has a good example of this with the focus on the dual swords making up two halves of the same whole, and that shot where zuko is literally holding them up in a way that divides his face in half when he is talking to the little boy in the flower field—one half scarred and the other unharmed. It fits perfectly with the two opposing forces in his family pushing him down different paths. Though there's this strong dichotomy, he relies on both sides as essential parts of his character.
