That along with D.A.R.Y.L. (1985) are 2 movies I watched a ton as a kid

I still got Labyrinth on VHS, recorded from a TV vroadcast from back in the day. It was one of the very few favorite movies as a child :)

With Who Framed Roger Rabbit in between - it was how they practiced for all the interactions between characters played by the same actor.

Ah, I'm embarrassed to say I can't remember who the artist is in my avatar. I know it saved it a long time ago when I was frequenting art forums. It's possible it's either Froud, or by an artist inspired by Froud. Still, at least it's reminiscent of the Labyrinth aesthetic.

Back to the Future 1 and 2 is a must

Puppetry for the win. And yes I agree, it has fantastic tunes so should be considered in the musical genre. Is your avatar a Brian Froud piece btw?

I love Labyrinth. It's also a straight-up musical, even though it's rarely discussed in that way. I've long wished they would make a sequel. I know Bowie is no longer with us, but they could have someone else be a new villain character - maybe another British pop/rock figure, such as Annie Lennox. Connolly could return in some way, and of course, it would need to have those great practical effects and puppetry.

'Labyrinth' probably won't be the favourite, but the innovation and imagination used to create that movie is legit. The practical effects, the set design, the early example of CGI and the magnificence that is, and forever shall be, David Bowie - in all his Jim Henson-driven glory.

If "Back to the Future" wins, I think it adds some interesting context to keep in mind the landscape of when it was released. Michael J. Fox was already very popular as the sarcastic teenager on the hit sitcom "Family Ties." So when he starred in BTTF as a similar character in this Spielberg-produced summer movie, it just catapulted him into the stratosphere.

Back to the Future trilogy is a must, but I hope you do Pretty in Pink first 🤞
