2022-03-26 16:57:08 +0000 UTCLoved the discussion at the end! One takeaway I got from this movie was that love and family ultimately triumph over money and power. Borden and Fallon sacrificed their lives to live a combined double life, which caused a lot of tragedy, yet in the end Fallon walked away with his little girl. He "won", with the sacrifice of his brother. To Borden and Angier it was a competition for who was the better magician, but to Fallon I think all he cared about was his family. Angier sacrificed his conscience by doing horrible things to get ahead, and even with all his money and influence, in the end he was left with nothing. The best line to me is Fallon's at the end: "You went halfway around the world. You spent a fortune. You did terrible things. Really terrible things, Robert. And all for nothing." I think to the audience this is the truth, and I sympathise the most with Fallon's character. Even though Angier "lost" and it cost him his life, I think in his mind he probably thought that he'd still won, because to him it was all for "the look on their faces". It's still kind of sad that his obsession, want for revenge and hubris cost him everything though, when it didn't have to.
