I am not asian but I do feel like my family falls into those stereotypes as well. My mother has always been conservative and overbearing but there is value in family and working hard and being disciplined. I've witnessed how she's been criticized her whole life for the way she has raised me and my brother and, even if I did have my teenage rebellious phase, it infuriates me. As I grow up I find myself understanding, thanking and defending her. I think, coming from adult storytellers, this movie should reflect a bit of that side as well. Children shouldn't be taught to fight their parents because, at the end of the day, most parents adore their children and all they want is for their kids to be happy. If anything, communication should be encouraged.
