Oh yeah, that's right. Fun fact about the Uchiha's crest and name (again, non spoilers). As I said, the Mangekyou Sharingan techniques' are derived from Shinto mythology, with them named after Shinto gods/goddesses. Shintoism also has strong connections with demons called Tengu, also known as wind spirits. No coincidence, as Tengu are heavy inspiration for the Uchiha as well. The Tengu King was named Sojobo. His full title was Sojobo no Uchiwa. Uchiwa and Uchiha are the same thing. Both mean "fan". These spirits were known for carrying fans and creating storms with the wind. The Pokemon Shiftry is based on a Tengu spirit. Its hands are even fans made of leaves. Again, this doesn't really have story relevance. You just see Tengu symbolism throughout the series, especially relating to the Uchiha. The 3 comma-shaped dots in the Sharingan eye are called "Tomoe", and their design is based on the Yasakani no Magatama, one of the Three Imperial Regalia of Japan (along with Kusanagi no Tsurgi and Yata no Kagami). The locations of these treasures in Japan are unknown, but are believed to be located at Shinto-affiliated shrines. You can tell which is my favorite clan in this series, and why I find them so interesting lol. The inspiration behind them is fascinating.

Ok, I'll say that your assessment of this flashback was correct. Regardless of what Itachi's feelings were when he killed his clan, he did love his little brother in these moments you saw. Even me as a kid could see this when I first watched these flashbacks. What I saw was rather a shift in Itachi's attitude as time went on. All of the words he spoke to Sasuke were very true (like, as you see, Itachi being there even as an obstacle for Sasuke), as mysterious as they may sound. Though in WHAT way they are true can come down to a matter of perspective, which you see Itachi does talk about a fair bit. And Itachi's sharp. He noticed Sasuke eavesdropping when even Fugaku and Mikoto didn't, and they're JOUNIN! Sadly, no matter how many times you replay these flashbacks, your perspective is limited like Sasuke's. However, watching your reaction to these flashbacks for the first time... you're sharper than others were. You're sharper than I was. Sure I questioned things too, but your perspective was more keen than mine. Then again, I was a kid when I saw this lol. Figures my boy Itachi would be the one to give you the longest post-episode discussion so far x) And you see a bit of why he's my favorite character. Like he said to those 3 Uchiha he beat the crap out of - "You failed to fully grasp my depth.". Even just this flashback showed him as deeper than you were expecting xP
