The new lore on the Empire post-endor is a little sparse in comparison to the old legends. There is the first order plugging away, but we don't know much else about other imperial factions, governors or warlords that stayed in the known galaxy after the Battle of Jakku a year after Endor. A lot of imperial equipment, ships and weapons fell into raider/independent hands.
