Problem I had was that she didn't have any law points for me to connect and understand her. It's the same reason I don't like man of steel superman they just do whatever they want with no consequences. They were careless most of the time. As an example in the beginning Tony was a little aarrogant too and that's what got him kidnapped and he learnt from that. I didnt get that with her here. I felt like she was the same at the end of the movie without any growth.

Can't really disagree with the criticisms. This movie suffered from a fairly weak final villian, Brie's character being extremely powerful in comparison to the villains and beloved other heroes, a weakish plot (honestly the cat thing was the best part about it apart from the Kree and some of the Skrull stuff), her lines were not great for her (she came across as a tad brooding to me, which didn't seem to suit her character), and her character seemingly lacked the same charm (mostly the writers fault as she is a fine actress) as some of the other marvel characters.

I feel like women who act cocky are seen as unlikeable compared to men. I could name plenty of cocky male characters who made mistakes in their first movie yet were not as criticized when Captain Marvel came out. Thor and Iron man for example.

*depressed sigh*
Okayyy guys, can we tone it down on the criticism? Like down to 50%, even if y'all have to DIG like heck for the good 50%? As my creative writing professors in undergrad would annoyingly tell me,
“Tell me why it doesn’t work, but also tell me why it does.”
Or just don’t share your thoughts after, if you really have nothing good to say? Or put “roast” in the beginning or title so I know not to view? I think that would have been better at this point … because having to listen to one of the super heroes near and dear to my heart be spoken about so harshly by the brilliant animator and filmmaker I have a lot of admiration/support for made me feel sick to my stomach for ten plus minutes straight. And these comments aren’t helping… Can we at least respect that Brie Larson tried her best to contribute a strong female lead for girls throughout the world to relate to? Can we see that there’s a real need for that and support the intent to meet that need?
Basically, I took it personal — and if I took it personal, then other people might. Especially all the women and men who do love her.

Brie Larson has knocked some roles out of the park acting-wise, but for some reason I can't quite put my finger on this just didn't work for me either. I don't think it's just because she's so powerful (we have similar OP characters in Thor for instance, but are still able to have compelling stories with him).
I do wonder if it's also a victim of where it falls in the release timeline, when people were just so ready for Endgame so it was kind of annoying to go back for an origin story this far into the MCU.
Such a bummer as the first solo female MCU superhero film, that this fell flat for a lot of people. It did have some great moments but the overall story felt jumbled and it was difficult to connect with Carol (for me, at least). I hope they can do some more interesting stuff with her in the sequel!
