It's a project Walt Disney pushed for a long time to make happen and hinged his entire companies future on. Most people thought he was crazy to think that people could get emotionally invested in an animation and wouldn't watch an animation that long.

2021-11-08 04:42:46 +0000 UTCHere's an explanation of the style of this movie. Before this Disney had an extensive cleanup team that would go over the original pencil drawings done by the animators. When you eventually see sleeping beauty you'll see that the character animation is exceptionally clean. During the period after Sleeping Beauty, Disney went through some financial troubles and they had to get rid of most of the cleanup team. So all the movies from this period have this sort of sketchy appearance because it's straight up just the pencil drawings.
