And to think this movie cover only the first act of the first book ! In the books beside all the world set up and expositions the first act ends when young Paul Atreides symbolicaly dies (by tacking another life) then really start to embrace his destiny. That's precisely the endpoint of this first movie. If the pace and lenght of this film is proportionnal to what's coming I think there will be at least 3 movies (if not more), the third one being sort of a bridge between the end of first book Dune and the first two acts of book sequel Dune Messiah. Which still leave more than 4 (dense and rich) books to go on ...

Oh nice!

I had read somewhere this version of Dune will be a trilogy.

Since you asked, as a book reader it's just like oh yeah, that's Dune. This movie blew my mind because it's just Dune and it's frickin' awesome

So, I totally agree that you should read the book. It's an amazing ride. But... and I say this because I think it's fair warning, if you decide to read the book, know that the series does....decline somewhat as the books go on and never really gets an ending. Basically, Frank Herbert actually died in the mid-1980's. The later books were ghost written by his son and other individuals. They...aren't all great, though some of them do have their moments. If I were you, I'd either just read the first two or first three. The first two are excellent and the third is passably good. Also, yes, I am aware there may be some fans out there who disagree with this assertion. While the ghost-writing is a fact, the other parts are just my opinion.

Ooooooh, yeah. It's a thicc boi alright XD

It definitely makes sense that you feel like it's an incomplete arc, since this brings us up to about the halfway point of the first book.

The book brings so much more to the characters, I really don't think it's cut out for film adaptation. That being said this is a good movie, just not a great adaptation (which isn't the fault of those who made it). I think that if Dune was to truly be adapted to it's full potential it would have to be with a show that really allows the characters to be fully developed as they are in the book. You get far more time to really care about these characters.

You should definitely read the book. I read it myself not too long ago in preparation for the movie. It was fanatstic. Such a fascinating world. This film feels only like act one. It doesn't have a satisfying ending in terms of storytelling, more like introduction to the world and setting up the next movie. Because it's only half of the book and not a complete arc for the charachters. i would be very interested in your review and general thoughts about the book if you ever read it. Also be warned - it's huge.

Something to say about Lady Jessica, because she is my favorite character. She WAS able to choose the gender of her children. Bene Gesserit are so iN CONTROL of their own bodies, that they can sift through the necessary "material" in order to ensure the gender of their child. Jessica was TOLD to only bear daughters. But Duke Leto wanted a son. Jessica loved the duke SO MUCH, that she chose to break her orders and bear him a son.

Saw it last night and was blown away by it . To the compelling story , Hans Zimmer's epic score and the breathtaking visual effects . Cannot wait for part 2 to come out . Seeing it again today . What a great beginning to an epic journey .

Oh, I just watched the beginning again, and I didn't even notice that it said "Part One." So you could look at this movie and the coming sequel as one movie split up into two parts. The second one will probably say Dune: Part Two.

Raven Dark

The movie felt incomplete because there are going to be three movies, the first two being based on the first book, the third based on Dune: Massiah. They probably did that because if they had tried to do the first book in one film, they would have had to cut so much out that the story would make no sense to anyone who didn't already know the story super well. There are a lot of book to movie adaptations that cut out so much of the books that no one who hasn't read the books spends the whole time being lost and confused. I feel like they handled this movie the only way they could if they wanted it to work for those with little to no knowledge.

Raven Dark

Your opinion of this story feeling incomplete is spot on! This is only about half of the first book and essentially is just the set up before the climax of the book really kicks off.

Check look movie

I'll have to wait to watch it with you guys. Not streamable here yet 😆 Cant wait to see it!!! You guys should watch the original Dune movie as a comparison! 😊

I highly recommend the book to anyone that enjoyed the movie!!! It has much more mystery and political intrigue that they had to cut for time in favor of the action scenes - totally makes sense from a film making perspective but worth the time it takes to read the book to get all those extra world building details!!!
