Behind the scenes, Ille Natirle P - 1
Added 2021-06-08 10:57:55 +0000 UTCIlle Natirle is a special character. She is the main face of the story, that is, the one whom the viewer will see all the time.
That's why you have to draw her most of the time. So in my design, I started from three things:
- Her silhouette must be recognizable even in half light.
- It shouldn't have elements that I'm not prepared to draw on every page
- She shouldn't look like the other girls in the comic
In the story, Natirle is the daughter of a chief who lived in Java many centuries ago. When the Peace Keep fell and the spirits had nowhere to live, her body was chosen to be the spirit of one of the goddesses, effectively making her a powerful avatar
She still wears her old Viking-era costume. Her dress, in fact, is a slightly altered hangerok to suit my needs.
Of course, a girl of high status must have jewelry. I chose the bling that is interesting to draw in action - the beads that focus attention on the chest, and the temple rings (which are also constantly in flux)
This dress asked for embroidery, and I chose the simplest geometric shapes that aren't hard to draw from frame to frame.
By design, Ille is not supposed to look like a pompous noblewoman. She is a cheerful, simple red-haired girl with freckles who has had a difficult burden.
That's why I made her hair naughty, just like Ille herself.
I used these concept art to test the full range of emotions that Natirle can feel.
