I think you are right about the relationship with henry being too familiar. He was also humiliated in front of everyone, having been lied to and fallen for it. I don’t think her status would have bothered him overmuch. It was the lie that blew up in her face.

2021-10-01 04:22:48 +0000 UTCI'm glad that you talked about the fact that it seemed real because that's the point. it's supposed to be a more realistic version of the Cinderella story without taking away from the whimsical tone. there is literally no magic in the story and it's supposed to be like "what if it actually happened? what would it look like?" plus I really love the nuanced character of the stepmother played by the amazing Anjelica Huston. you guys were spot-on: she really did love the father, and that moment when his last words were his love for his daughter and not her triggered her jealousy and ultimate mistreatment of Danielle. you can see other moments in her performance later on where there might be some ounce of caring for Danielle in her heart, but it is fleeting. the acting in this movie is so good! thanks for the reaction guys!
