Forrest Gump YOUTUBE EDIT (early access)

The best summary of Forrest Gump is, "Tom Hanks photobombs recent American history!" I watched this movie as a kid and didn't understand half of what was going on. I've "seen" it many times since but I think this was my first time watching it completely from start to finish as an adult. I definitely understood Jenny a lot more than I ever did before! Like how Forrest is so perfectly innocent whereas because of what was done to her as a child, she's probably always felt dirty and ashamed and not good enough for him. And it takes Forrest's love (and their son) to show her that she's valuable and worthy of love. Great reaction! Especially towards the end when you didn't have to even say a word; your faces said it all.

Yep! That's what I did for 6 years. Assisted elementary students in the General Education classroom who needed a little extra help but were otherwise able to manage being in a class with their grade-level peers. It was better for them because they got more of an education and better social skills than kids like them did in Forrest's day. And it was better for the other students as well to be exposed to all types of kids so they could hopefully become better adults than the kids who bullied Forrest.

Speaking as an educator in regards to the "maybe a special school is what's best for Forrest" comment--which is an understandable reaction--schools try, and are required by law, to offer every child an education in "the least restrictive environment" possible whilst still meeting any accommodations a student may need. In my state Forrest would likely be placed in a General Education classroom (on level with neurotypical peers) and given remediation classes instead of electives (sports, arts, etc.)
