Mulan UNEDITED REACTION (early access)

This movie is AMAZING! Switched it up a bit this week but hope y'all enjoy!

Mulan UNEDITED REACTION (early access)

Comments

Just adding: I like that the writers didn't give Mulan unrealistic strength. They showed that women can learn to fight well by being quick, using an opponent's strength against him, and by employing creativity and ingenuity. They didn't just magically imbue Mulan with the strength of 10 men or whatever, like many "female empowerment" movies do. They gave her some acrobatic skill, for sure, but the training montage shows that she worked for those skills! That's important for little girls to see.

Great reaction and discussion at the end - I love this movie so much. Have you heard of The Great Mouse Detective? That would be a cool classic Disney to see you two react to, if you feel like it!

If you guys have been watching The Mandalorian, The voice actress for Mulan plays Fennec Shand, that bounty Hunter that they meet on Tatooine.

Argo2Unitard

If you guys haven't seen it, I highly reccomend Quest for Camelot. It is a musical and it is amazing!!

I'm so glad you reacted to Mulan. This animation made me who I am. And I am not exaggerating by saying this. I was 8 years old when this movie was in the cinema (1998 y'all, I am getting old). As a little girl it was so important to me to understand that I can be whatever and my gender does not limit me at all. It made me understand that at the end of the day we are all equal. And not only regarding to our assigned gender, but everything else as well.

I enjoyed the switch up and if you ever wanted to react to stuff Nick's reacted to or vice versa I would totally watch the same movie again :)

So glad we got a Mulan reaction because it's a classic for a reason. I would tottally be up for you guys switching things up whenever you want (especially if there's another "Moulin Rouge" situation or, like this, where it's not about personal prefrences but simply the fact that Nick has already seen it or if he just really wants to explore the horror genre a bit more) though of course I understand that it would have to fit around your no doubt already busy schedule so again don't push yourselves to hard trying to please all your fans. Glad you got to introduce something new to NineTailedBrush & that he seemed to really enjoy this diffrent style of animation.

Beauty and the beast or Lilo and stitch would be cool to see next, loved the reaction!

Since Ninetailedbrush is an animator, I'd be interested to see his reaction to some of the more creatively animated Disney movies - Tarzan, Atlantis, Treasure Planet - even Lilo and Stitch with how it has a watercolour type background and illustrated characters.

They should do The Lion King or Beauty and The Beast for next week . Really enjoyed this guys . Hope you switch things up again . This was fun .

i love this movie! I think you guys would enjoy the sword in the stone its my top fav

So, I actually lived in China for several years and got to live close to Mount Mulan, supposedly the birthplace of Mulan. Mulan is a real, historical figure. While her life is steeped in so much legend that it's somewhat similar to King Arthur in its obscurity, we still know that she WAS a real person. While this movie is far from accurate, it does still hold a special place in my heart :)

I would say Mulan was actually trying to fight the traditions of her culture... In a way, that's what 'Reflection' is about at its core. The movie is pretty clear from the very beginning about how uncomfortable she feels with the traditional gender norms of her society, and how she suffers for realising she doesn't quite fit in. Even in the snow, once she has been uncovered, she tells Mushu that "maybe" she didn't run away only because she wanted to protect her father, and that she also did it because she wanted to accomplish something and do things right for herself. She says that on that scene, so I don't know if maybe they missed it or something. :)

LOVED this reaction guys. It was so fun seeing you guys enjoy this and I agree with all your points especially about how Mulan wasn't trying to fight the traditions of her culture. I like that they showed the harsh reality of those times and that they focused more on honour and the importance of family. In the perfect world I'd love to see all three of you guys to react to Disney...but it was really cool to see Ninetails offer his opinion on western animation, very interesting :)

FAV PRINCESS MOVIE! Great reaction!

Aljon Villaruel

The voice of the matchmaker is Miriam Margolyes, who played Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films. The singing voice of the grandmother is Marni Nixon, whose voice you'll also prominently hear when you do "West Side Story" :)

Mike Dispo

was already excited for Mulan but then you guys said you where doing Iron Giant and my excitement went thru the roof. Such a great movie.

Fritz

I adore Mulan. It's definitely in my top three favorite Disney princess films. The first tattoo I got was of Mushu holding the lucky cricket.

Alex Romanov

10 minutes in, and I can already tell how much you both are just enjoying this movie. I love that! I feel like this is one of the few movies that just knew what it was going to get right/wrong and leaned into it in the best ways for the time it was made.
