The book is much more deep on those themes such as bullying, racism, violence, etc. It’s incredible and worth the read :)

I think he fed on the towns fear and perversity. Like you were saying about the adults driving by when Ben was being bullied. I think they saw but choose not to see if that makes sense. Bystander effect mixed with teenage angst and the fact that at that age you feel like adults just don't understand. Further shown when beverly's creepy ass dad couldn't see the whole bathroom covered in blood. The best part of this series is the nostalgia for how it felt to be a kid. This and stand by me also by Stephen King really exemplify that for me.
