I think the "weird" behavior of L when he was on the rain and drying Light's foot was because L had a plan to prove the 13 days rule was BS and consequently Light and Misa would be guilty so they would go to jail. I think L really got some friendly feelings for Light, even after suspecting him.

Lol, yep. It never ceases to amuse me that, in an otherwise pretty serious show, the creator's complete lack of concept of what western names are actually supposed to sound like. Like, it's pretty accepted that L was actually supposed to be British and.....Lawliet???? Not to mention some of the weird names we have upcoming XD

What's most frustrating is the fact that L always knew Light was Kira, he just couldn't prove it. The foot massage thing is a biblical reference; Jesus washed Judas' feet before he was betrayed by him. L's real name was Lawliet.

The scene where L was wiping Light's feet was a reference to Jesus washing Judas' feet aka washing away his sins. There is couple references from the Bible in this show.

The way Light has 3 death notes, a full supporter with shinigami's eyes, 2 shinigamis on his side (Ryuk wrote about the fake rules and Rem lied about the rules when L asked), yet L still had everything figured out. Man I'm still emotionally recovering from L's death after many years. Felt it at heart every time James yelled "Screw you" at Light lol. Thank you for the great reaction!

if i remember correctly, you can see sand particles fall from rem in a scene after she writes their names.... so yea

At that point L has everything figured out, but since he knows he's about to die, he also knows he wont have enought time to prove it. L drying Light is a reference of when Jesus washed Judas's feet before dying. It's an odd situation where they both know what is about to happen, but still are forced to keep playing along.

This is why Light made Rem and Ryu switch notebooks. So now the book with his memories is attached to Rem, therefore Rem has to follow Light. And this way, Light can put Misa into danger of being captured and force Rem to kill L to save Misa. This way he can kill them both, L and Rem, in a single move.
