an announcement about the future of the gender reveal podcast :)
Added 2024-07-28 19:24:24 +0000 UTCHey friends,
Hope you’re all hanging in there. Yesterday I rushed out of the house at 7am to go play in a gay softball tournament (yay) and forgot to take my meds (boo), and today my brain is Angry! So it’s a weird time to write a newsletter announcing a big pivot in the Gender Reveal Media Conglomerate Universe (GRMCU), but I will give it my best shot.
(Before we start, I will mention that this information all exists in much more detail via the newest Gender Conceal episode, which is available for all patrons. But it feels safe to assume that most of you have not listened to that episode yet, and possibly never will, which is by the way so fine and #valid. So let me reiterate here!)
Starting next month, Gender Reveal is going to become a monthly podcast. Sort of! We already have two episodes planned for August, so like, who knows what will happen. But we’re aiming for one full Gender Reveal episode per month.
Gender Conceal is staying monthly, and will hopefully improve in quality now that we’ll have more time to work on those episodes. The newsletter and other patreon rewards will also remain as they are now.
This change is happening for several reasons beyond time management, but I will not pretend that the extra time is not a fun perk. I’ll be using a lot of that time to work with Niko on Girl Dad Press, a project that I am VERY very excited about, and that has so far has made like negative-nine-thousand-dollars. So by continuing to support this little patreon, you are not only helping Ozzy and me continue to make podcast(s), but also allowing me to spend a bunch of time, like, figuring out how indie book distribution works in Canada, etc. You’re truly a patron of the arts!!!!!
I’m very aware that most people will not notice or care about this decrease in episode frequency. I’m also aware that some people do care a lot about the show and will be bummed. I completely understand both of these reactions! If you have any questions / comments / concerns about any of this, please leave a comment here or hit me up wherever you can find me. (Don’t reply directly to this newsletter, tho, because I can’t see those replies lol.)
Anyway! Season 13 starts next month and continues indefinitely. (One person solved last week’s guest anagram in a very funny way — did anyone else solve it? Are you hyped for this all-star guest?!) Here’s Links & Stuff:
I mentioned Cats @ 9/11 in this week’s Gender Conceal episode, and just want to report back that it was actually extremely good, especially considering the source material! They should let this exact team make a performance that’s not Cats, imho.
I do not understand how Producer Ozzy has time to make 4+ podcasts when I can barely make 1.5 podcasts, but! They’ve spent a long time working on Rose Eveleth’s new six-part podcast, Tested, and you can listen to most of it now! (It is about gender and sex and the Olympics, so perhaps relevant to at least some of your interests.)
Speaking of the Olympics — Israel has made it all but impossible for Palestinian athletes to survive, let alone compete, but Palestine still has 8 athletes at the Paris games, and they’ve been working to bring attention to the ongoing genocide The flag-bearer’s shirt protest ruled btw.
I watched the documentary 26.2 to Life on a plane and recommend it! It also led me to sign up for the Prison Journalism Project newsletter.
I saw this bumper sticker in the wild in Minneapolis and now I can’t stop thinking about it.
That’s it for this week. Here’s your Weekly Rhubarb.

2024-07-30 02:03:45 +0000 UTCHaha! I’m late in the game to this Patreon — this big announcement is literally my first (I’m so late to the game that I’ll have to stay on for seven years at least — thank you for all the good the show’s done me and well, everybody). Crikey I’m glad you’re switching to a 1/1 schedule rather than burning out all together. Hurrah for the press - knock ‘em 2cold!

2024-07-28 21:54:58 +0000 UTCThis makes so much sense, and best of luck with finding balance! Guessing the Canada thing was low-key a joke but like just in case, I'm in a volunteer-run leftist book co-op in Canada (Spartacus Books) and we work a lot with indie presses, self publishers, etc. We could probably help with navigating or pointing towards resources if that's useful :)
