Shing Yin Khor! Spring! More anarchism with Shuli!

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. It’s the first spring-weather day of the year, and Ruby and I are out on the fire escape watching pigeons. It’s very nice!!! (If you ignore the pile of broken glass and the big pot full of swampy water and the flakes of rust and also the dead trees that have fallen over in the yard that we can’t access. Which I do!)

In this week’s episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with multimedia artist Shing Yin Khor. I’ve already encouraged y'all to check out Shing’s work, and here I am doing it again. Go check it out! Their “mail day subscription” on patreon is also a great value imho.

This week’s episode includes Krys Malcolm Belc’s review of Caitlyn Jenner’s memoir, which was such a treat to edit. (The review, not the memoir, although what a fun reveal that would be!) At some point in the Google Doc comments, Krys mentioned Jen Richards’ book review-slash-public friend breakup that she published in Cosmo back in 2017, and I’m passing it along here for your enjoyment.

This week, we also released a new Gender Conceal episode called “Seeing the dying gasps of the state with Shuli Branson,” so as you can tell it’s a fun and normal one. (Ok, but it actually is surprisingly fun! I think! Ozzy was there and we all talked about whether time is bourgeoisie, or something.)

Next week (tomorrow), we’re sharing my chat with linguist Ariana Steele. I meant to talk more about abolition and we ended up talking a lot about astrological cusps instead, but look, sometimes that’s what happens when you are gay!!!

I’ve also got guess appearances on two other podcasts coming out soon, and they’re both INCREDIBLY chaotic, so keep an eye out for those.

Alsooooo, you’ll hear me mention this in tomorrow’s episode, but: Trans Day of Snack is coming up, and I’d love to get a couple of limited-edition designs in merch shop for it, as usual! So if you’ve got any ideas that you’d like to donate to the cause, send them our way.

In the meantime! Here’s Links & Stuff. Very sad this week, sorry!!!

Photo: The relevant paragraph from the linked article, with one line highlighted: "he half-jokingly suggested the idea of the Stupid Zoo, which would be populated only by animals unbothered by being in captivity: sea stars, flatworms, things of that nature."

OK, we always end on a light note tho, so let me say that I met my new tax person this week and it reminded me that it’s once again time to play this banger on a loop!!!!!

That’s it for this week. Here’s your Weekly Rhubarb (via my roommate earlier today).

Shing’s work is awesome! One of my favorite pieces of art ever is a pair of prints from their “A Memory of Beasts” series that I got at comic con many years ago
