Grant open! Transcripts up! Recs accepted! Baseball gay!

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. Happy Friday the 13th! No new eps, obviously, but we’ve got some fun stuff happening behind the scenes (and… in front of the scenes? In the scenes? What’s the opposite of that, do you think?).

Anyway, a bunch of updates for ya:

First and foremost, our 2023 round of grants is now open! It’s been challenging to share the application outside of Instagram due to ~social media kind of collapsing~ so if you could help spread the word, I’d really appreciate it. The application (open to all trans people of color) is at bit.ly/GRgrant23, and we have a full list of past grant recipients at genderpodcast.com/grant.

Speaking of our website: Our transcription team on slack has been doing really great work, and we’re almost completely caught up on episode transcripts! So if you know anyone who has been waiting on those, they’re at genderpodcast.com/listen (and a bunch of the bonus episodes are transcribed here with the password “detective”).

Hope y’all have been taking advantage of our little merch sale! You’ve got two days left to take 10% off your order with the promo code “TRICKTREAT.”

Photo: Our best-selling shirt this month, which says "Get in homos, we're gonna survive the apocalypse together"  accompanied by an illo of a car. It's a navy blue shirt with light blue and hot pink graphics.

LA-area folks: our little book event temporarily sold out of free RSVPs, but the bookstore opened up a bunch more space so it’s now un-sold-out! You can RSVP to the LA event at bit.ly/2T2FLA. Thanks for the support!

Photo: A graphic of Tuck and Tre'vell and the 2 Trans 2 Furious book, that says the event is on Nov 10 at 7pm at North Figueroa Bookshop.

Meanwhile, in the podcast part of the podcast: Ozzy and I are slowly putting together our brainstorm list for next season’s guests. So if you’ve been holding on to guest recommendations, now’s a great time to send them our way! (Leaving a comment below is great.)

Seems like I had a sixth or seventh housekeeping topic but this is enough, right? Here’s Links & Stuff.

Two serious things:

One sort of medium thing:

A few fun things:

That’s it for this week. Here’s your weekly Rhubarb. A gay icon!

Yr resident gender detective

PS: still no fridge, I’ve forgotten what it’s like to have a fridge.

PPS: is it helpful or annoying when I bold words lol.

thank you for the details!!!!!

Tuck

ok yes totally! we can work on more

Tuck

I have! And they're great! Thanks! And yet, little ones have so many questions they expect me to know answers to 😉

B Squared

hiii, totally, we can always use more but just making sure: have you listened to all the existing trans parent episodes? there's a list in our starter packs and then several more that aren't on the list.

Tuck

There's so many writers, artists, etc, guests, would love to see some more trans people in science, engineering, etc.! Also, I realize this might be a niche set of listeners, but anybody that can speak to being a trans parent would be super helpful to me personally right now.

B Squared

Seconding!

I'd love to suggest Jay Hulme as a potential guest. Perhaps most famous for his poem 'Jesus at the Gay Bar' (https://jayhulme.com/blog/jesus-at-the-gay-bar), Jay is a poet and performer and also the churchwarden at a tiny and very queer 1100 year old church in the north of England. I 100% have a very parasocial crush on him, and one of the t-shirt designs he sells reads 'Tasteless Fucking Gremlin' (https://jayhulme.com/shop/tasteless-gremlin) which I feel has definite Gender Reveal merch vibes.

Quinn Rhodes

Suggesting John-Allison Weiss to talk about being an indie singer-songwriter and camper/trailer life on the road

shura

I was thinking Geri Kramer because she made a podcast about being trans and coming out ("Meet the Kramers") and is an awesome tattoo artist!

Kit B

Maybe Johannes T. Evans, Emmett Nahil or Jay Dragon? I've listened to a few podcasts episodes that Jay Dragon has been a guest on and Jay always has such great things to say about game design and TTRPGS.

Cail

Leo Sheng! He voiced Koi Boi! That means he basically met Squirrel Girl!

Elinor

suggesting Avery Alder or Naomi Clark, trans game designers who have both made incredible queer games

Kristen

Suggested A.J. White as a guest to talk about trans teenagerhood and horror!!!

Max Turner

I want to suggest Dr. Blair Peters as a guest! I saw a talk they gave on gender affirming surgery/care and it was really really good.

Caro

Rivals to lovers arc, but make it gay baseball 💖🌈 What an adorable story. Also bold good.
