Chiquitita! LA event! Fridge-free food recs!?

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. My big news is that our fridge broke and now we don’t have a fridge for the next week, and it turns out that fridges are actually really useful? If anyone has suggestions for (vegan) food to eat that does not require a fridge at any point, please let me know. So far, I’ve been eating:

Send help lol.

ANYWAY, we’ve got Chiquitita on the pod this week! Chiqui’s great. We talked about trans drag, naked drag, misogyny in drag, changing your drag name multiple times… and also lots of non-drag things, like Spanish FFS and unsupportive family members and meeting your cute trans boyfriend on a train (which I am now always on the lookout for, by the way!!! Train boyfriends where u at.)

We also put out another segment about another gender-tracking app — which STILL hasn’t answered any questions that it promised to answer weeks ago, by the way! Mattie made a comic that said the same thing but faster and funnier.

Photo: A comic panel of mattie tapping on their phone and saying "yes, it's an app and subscription service that tracks my gender journey. for only a large monthly fee and also all of my data!"

Next week, we’re speaking with horror author Alison Rumfitt. Alison’s new book has a cover that looks like this so obviously I was a squeamish little baby about it all, but luckily we have Horror Correspondent Ozzy around to chat as well! Hope u enjoy it.

In breaking live event news, Mckenzee and I are doing a 2 Trans 2 Furious book event on November 10 at North Figueroa Bookshop in Los Angeles. It’s gonna be free, so come on by! There will be an official announcement soon but I wanted youuuu to know first.

Oh, speaking of 2 Trans 2 Furious, here’s the current list of spots to buy the book. We aren't offering individual US orders anymore, but you can still place an online order from like, Moon Palace or Powells or wherever, for as long as those shops have them in stock. I've also set aside a stack for future events and future $40+ patreon rewards, so they'll be around here and there for a while.

(I also set aside about 100 more copies for wholesale orders, so if you have a local queer bookstore that you love, it would mean a lot if you'd request the book! I know it's so annoying to ask this, but being self-published means that they literally do not listen to me when I'm like "hello wanna carry this book?" because they do not believe that anyone will want it, which is fair! So I gotta ask the readers to prove that there is demand, lol lmao.)

OK, here’s Links & Stuff:

Photo: An article with the headline "I bought 6 things at Martha Stewart's Tag Sale, but I could have stolen any number of them" by Choire Sicha, accompanied by a photo of a big pile of plastic(?) bones and a stack of paper bags labelled "$2 per bone."

That’s it for this week. Here’s your weekly Rhubarb.

Photo: Ruby is standing on the cat tree on her hind legs, with her front paws holding onto the top tier of the cat tree. It looks weird!  (Complimentary.)

Hopefully the rest of the episodes are still good and hopefully someone talked to Greg about this!

remmedy - they them

ok good!!! I'll give it a shot then. I'm watching 14 right now :)

Tuck

Oh no! That’s awful! I’ve watched several episodes, and it was fine. 🙈

remmedy - they them

actually kind of shocked to hear this because I heard Greg Davies on a podcast where he misgendered a they/them the entire time and it made me really really not trust him!!!

I love an apple or banana with peanut butter for breakfast. Also rice cakes! (The crunchy kind, not the delicious Korean rice cakes). Black beans and rice is always yummy. I like canned chickpeas and corn with cumin, chili powder, etc. you can also roast the chickpeas if you want some crunch! Canned green beans are also pretty good and grits/polenta :)

Abbi

So excited you’ve given Taskmaster a try! Nonbinary rep in season 15, which is great to hear them get they/them pronouns right when referring to Mae!

beautiful tysm!

This is less a meal and more a snack but trailmix is pretty filling. It's not that different from canned soup, but there's also canned chili

Ever

for vegan non-fridge food! I love me some curried beans. A little fat, some shelf-stable aromatics like ginger, garlic, onion. You can use your favorite vegan canned curry paste if you like! Or just bloom some turmeric, chili powder, coriander, cumin, etc. until fragrant and deglaze with coconut milk. Stir in some drained beans (I like butter beans), season with salt, a little dark soy if you like, and lime juice (off heat), and serve with flatbread. pastas are also great! Canned tomatoes make better sauces than canned sauce, and olive oil, garlic, pepper, and lemons are all shelf stable.
