Musical movies
Added 2021-07-21 14:06:05 +0000 UTCFor now we are gonna stick with actual movie as opposed to stage recordings, but we may move to those at some point.

I also recommend Into the Woods!

2021-07-29 22:22:04 +0000 UTCIs there any chance of adding Chicago (2002) to the list, not sure how much it’d be your taste but it’s a great musical

2021-07-28 10:04:34 +0000 UTCI for sure second this cause it was so gooood!
2021-07-24 17:43:57 +0000 UTCAlso there’s a musical that y’all should also give a shot and that’s DreamGirls. Has such amazing cast and ofcourse Beyoncé hahaha

2021-07-24 12:22:46 +0000 UTCYou can’t get into musicals without doing the classics first so ofcourse it has to be Sound Of Music because like 🤍🥺

2021-07-24 12:22:11 +0000 UTCFor “Les Miserable,” the non-musical movie version w/ Liam Neeson is good

2021-07-24 01:01:27 +0000 UTCYes please!!! Little Shop of Horrors is so good!

2021-07-23 19:43:35 +0000 UTCI voted for Sound Of Music! It's one of my favourite musicals! But, I am in my 30's so I guess I'm considered old now lol
Trav Gorin
2021-07-23 16:49:07 +0000 UTCIf I may give another recommendation, Little Shop of Horrors is a personal favorite of mine how can you not love Rick Moranis
2021-07-23 07:47:54 +0000 UTCYoung is good. Enjoy your youth because the years go by fast. I feel like I went through a wormhole and missed the last 20 years. The classics are definitely the best. It breaks my heart that the golden age of Hollywood is all but forgotten. I love that classic Norma Desmond line from Sunset Boulevard, "we didn't need words, we had faces." Today, actors just need to be willing to take their clothes off and cuss like a sailor.

2021-07-22 23:21:19 +0000 UTCYes, this is a must, in my opinion. I honesty think that in order for Singin' in the Rain to get a chance there needs to be like a separate poll for true classics from this era, and not just the musicals. Singin' in the Rain is also a good one for them as filmmakers because it gives some history about cinema during that time. Hopefully in the future if they have more time.....
Effie
2021-07-22 16:09:23 +0000 UTCI can't believe Singin' in the Rain isn't even on there, best musical of all time imo!

2021-07-22 05:22:56 +0000 UTCfellow young crowd here lol but voted for the Sound of Music because classics are better than more recent movies in my opinion.

2021-07-22 00:41:36 +0000 UTCI've watched The Greatest Showman approximately 2,089 times, and I love it. However, in case it wins, please keep in mind that it's not meant to be a documentary. Yes, I'm being somewhat sarcastic, but I did get the impression from some of the reviews it got that that's what people expected. Also, it's *very* over-the-top in how sentimental it is, and the story paints in very broad strokes. If you can leave your cynicism at the door, you'll enjoy it.

2021-07-21 23:43:56 +0000 UTCI agree. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed 'Greatest Showman' and some recent musicals but there are so many great classic musicals that always lag behind in these polls so I don't know if they'll ever get a chance.
Effie
2021-07-21 23:16:09 +0000 UTCI can't believe Sound of Music and West Side Story are lagging so far behind. I'm thinking this is a young crowd that's voting. I would have thought a good Catholic boy like James would have already seen SOM. 😊🎶

2021-07-21 22:05:26 +0000 UTCQuite honestly, these are all good and you should watch them all at some point!

2021-07-21 21:03:29 +0000 UTCI've been thinking of giving mamma Mia a second chance. I saw it when I was around ten and was so mad, mostly because I felt so let down. I used to beg my mom to take me to see the Broadway show and then when I found out it was going to be a movie I was so excited. I feel like the reason why a lot of people like it is the same reason why I didn't. Like I was obsessed with Abba, and I loved musicals so I thought mamma Mia was going to be the greatest thing I had ever seen. I'm thinking that maybe it was my age and the plot.

2021-07-21 20:37:19 +0000 UTCI'm genuinely shocked that Mama Mia has such strong support. Granted, I've never seen it, but I was under the impression it wasn't that highly regarded. (I know it was successful enough to get a sequel, but that can be deceptive.)

2021-07-21 19:45:16 +0000 UTCMamma Mia is just fun. Yeah, there are better musicals, but the cast is so clearly enjoying themselves that it's infectious.
Sean Silence
2021-07-21 19:31:05 +0000 UTCThere's some iconic scenes in 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' but honestly if Sound of Music is struggling right now it's going to be tough. There's some really great old musicals for sure though....

2021-07-21 18:19:12 +0000 UTCMy favorite musical Movies
2021-07-21 18:15:10 +0000 UTCMamma Mia is beating Les Mis, and I can’t unsee that.

2021-07-21 17:55:50 +0000 UTCHonestly, there are quite a few movie adaptations of musicals that are not very good or not very faithful to the stage productions.

2021-07-21 16:22:46 +0000 UTCYou should absolutely watch mamma Mia!!!!!! I've rewatched some reactions probably far too many times just because how much I love it and I love the reactions.
2021-07-21 16:09:52 +0000 UTCIf you're sticking to the movie versions avoid phantom of the opera! The anniversary concert is definitely the version to watch!

2021-07-21 15:55:14 +0000 UTCyou should add Hairspray to your next musical poll!!
Anne
2021-07-21 15:48:10 +0000 UTCI would recommend Chicago , My Fair Lady and Evita for the next poll .

2021-07-21 15:32:53 +0000 UTCWould genuinely be thrilled for any in the poll 😊
2021-07-21 15:25:05 +0000 UTCWhy is Sweeny Todd no longer on the list?
Linda Wightman
2021-07-21 15:23:55 +0000 UTCadd Grease, Rocky Horror Show the original one, and Cry baby for the next poll.

2021-07-21 14:53:30 +0000 UTCAll the movies are great, however I found the music in The Greatest Showman to be exceptional! I watch it time and time again! Hugh Jackman is fantastic in everything he does! You could do a double feature night since you have 2 Hugh Jackman movies listed. Just a thought.
Terrie Vasquez
2021-07-21 14:42:34 +0000 UTCLots of good options! Requests for future polls: Chicago, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Rocky Horror Picture Show

2021-07-21 14:27:30 +0000 UTCI'm hoping for Mamma Mia and The Greatest Showman . Both are fun in their own unique way . And both have really hardcore fandoms that could really tip the scales or make them both tie up in the end . Either way , the next reaction isn't gonna be as serious as the last one . Which will be great for all of us .

2021-07-21 14:23:10 +0000 UTCI will put it up next time!!! Great little musical
2021-07-21 14:19:40 +0000 UTCWrite-In vote for Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Who would not want to see Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, and Felicia Day in a Joss Whedon musical that fell mostly under the radar?
2021-07-21 14:17:58 +0000 UTCI totally voted for Sound of Music. It's definitely a classic! And Julie Andrews just nails it!
