The first season was a summer replacement for a nighttime soap called Savannah. they had a very little budget and only 12 episodes. Buffy doesn't hit its stride until halfway through season 2. Each new season had a bigger budget, better stories and better fight scenes. The characters grow and change and are not the same people who started in season one.
