Krys Malcolm Belc! Internet chaos playlist! Internet chaos, generally!

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. I have been doing a cute little morning routine lately where I log into twitter and it ruins my entire day. I have this print (by a trans artist!) in my bathroom and yet it still happens.

To cope with my own bad choices, I made a playlist of songs that were resonating with me re: using the world wide web; it’s very chaotic but you’re welcome to listen here. (Yes, it has an Augustana song! From 2005! Shut up, I’m wrong, I know!)

ANYWAY. This week on the show, I had the pleasure of chatting with Krys Malcolm Belc, author of The Natural Mother of the Child. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I loved Krys’s memoir, and/but/also felt challenged by it in multiple ways. It was wonderful, therefore, that Krys organically started talking about how much he appreciates trans books that challenge him, and how there’s value in trans people disagreeing with each other. (That’s good because we openly disagreed about, uh, genitals? I’ll let you listen to find out what I mean by that lol.)

One more podcast thing: there appears to be an entity called Queerty that gives out awards called Queerties, and we have been nominated for a Queerty. I normally do not care about internet-voting awards, but after a series of very strange interactions, I now feel somewhat compelled to win out of spite. So, uh, you can vote every day? If you’re bored? No presh!

Here’s the part of the newsletter where I share links to things that I’ve enjoyed recently.

• Like everyone else, I absolutely love Amy Schneider, and thus also loved her essay in Defector.
• I’ve been listening to a lot of StraightioLab lately because my brain can currently only handle shows in the Las Culturistas Cinematic Universe. I don’t know if their 2020 episode with Matt Rogers will be at all amusing to you, but it made me laugh out loud even on a second(!) listen.
• I have no feelings at all about Jackass, but Caity Weaver is a genius and her profile of Jason Acuña completely engrossed me.
• I bought this silly case for the ~aesthetic~ instead of one that would help me actually retain/maintain my AirPods, and I don’t regret it.
• Finally, this headline brought me a lot of joy when it popped into my inbox.
