Fall grant! Halloween merch! Collabs we love! Cat with a bat!

Hey friends,

Hope you're all hanging in there. It is 69° here (nice) which is undoubtably bad for the planet long-term but is somewhat ameliorating my depression in the very short term so maybe it's good actually. (It's not.) (But maybe!)

We just launched our Fall 2021 grant program, which is more or less the same as our spring grant program except six months later. To recap: we're awarding $500 payments to trans people of color who are doing rad art or activism that uplifts their/our communities. Please share widely with folks in your networks! Applications are at bit.ly/GR21grant.

I forgot to mention last week that I was a guest on Flash Forward, an excellent podcast made by my friend Rose Eveleth and our own Julia Llinas Goodman. It was an honor to pretend I knew anything about the ~future of gender~ for this episode; tune in to hear how I, Tuck, answer the "ideal future of gender" question that I've asked 100 guests!

OK, remember how our merch store is broken? It's still very broken, but I couldn't let it die without one last round of Halloween-adjacent merch. So, I made it work, sort of — some folks are still getting a 404 message and I don't have any idea how to fix it — and we've got five designs in there for you right now, each better and more ghoulish than the last.

Photo IDs, top to bottom: a light blue hoodie with a graphic of a ghost carrying a banner that says "Trans Ghouls United;" a black t-shirt that says "No Cis Vampires" decorated with blood drops and sketches of vampires and trans symbols; a light pink long-sleeved shirt that says "Gender is Dead" with an image of flowers growing out of a skull.

I'm especially hyped about our new design from SamLevi Sizemore, who I believed described it as "t4t mothman and his girlfriend" (!!!!!!!)

Photo ID: Mothman and his girlfriend embrace in front of a small town. Above them is very large moth. Text in the corner reads "We will always be freaks."

All designs are in the shop until 10/15 and then who knows?!?!? So grab what you want at bit.ly/gendermerch while you can.

And speaking of merch, I just want to show you this collaboration that Stay Home Club did with a four-year-old. I don't get a cut of this, it's not an ad, it just brings me joy.

Photo ID: above, a black sweatshirt that says "just another worst day of my life" in childish handwriting, decorated with a child's drawing of a frog standing in the sun. Below, a child wearing a t-shirt that says "I'm a bit tired" in childish handwriting above a drawing of a drooping flower.

OK, that's it for this week. I leave you with maybe the best Weekly Rhubarb of all time.

(Trans bat inspired by the good ones that Scout makes, but much worse.)

xoxo,
Yr resident gender detective
