Hello!
It's 11 pm on the west coast, which means that, by the time most of you read this, it will be March 31st: Trans Day of Visibility.
But let's face it — being visibly trans can be exhausting. It can be scary. It can lead to a whole host of problems, from being misgendered / harassed / physically attacked to having our healthcare denied and our rights threatened in court. But you know this! I do not need to tell you.
So what if, instead, we just did a tiny nice thing for ourselves?
Here's an FAQ even though nobody has asked me any questions yet because nobody knew it existed until now.
I'm trans! How do I celebrate?
If you're a trans person reading this, please go to bit.ly/TransDayOfSnack and send me your payment info so I can buy you a snack. I don't care if you can afford your own snack! Please let me buy you a snack! It's literally the least I can do. (Plus, it's not me, it's cis people that I guilted into donating to the fund on twitter, so we're all good.)
I'm cis! How do I celebrate?
If you're cis and reading this, you're welcome to donate a smidge of snack money. The best way is by sending money via Venmo (@Tuck-Woodstock) but I can also take Cash App ($TuckWoodstock) or PayPal (PayPal.me/TWoodstock) in a pinch. Alternately, just buy a snack for a trans person in your life without making me do any of the work!
I'm trans! Can I donate to the snack fund?
Please don't worry about it! Please just eat a snack! I love you so much.
Can I tell my friends?
Absolutely! Please just wait an hour until I announce at midnight Pacific Time. Again, that's bit.ly/TransDayOfSnack.
How long will this be open?
I assume just today, March 31, unless we have extra money (which is possible!)
Does this replace the spring mutual aid program?
Here's where it gets really fun! When you sign up for your snack, you have the option to click to another page where you can apply for $100 in mutual aid. If you do not need that, you can just get the snack. So, if you know someone who is trans and probably a person of color and could use $100, please extra encourage them to sign up for snack.
Wait, aren't you supposed to be taking this week off?
Um. Yes. Oops?
I have another question that you didn't anticipate while writing a newsletter at 11pm and having an imaginary Q&A with yourself.
Cool! Leave a comment here!
One more thing! Did you do anything fun on social media today?
Yes, I wrote this thread on puberty blockers that is doing big numbers in a way that makes me very happy. Lots of people, cis and trans, are replying with their experiences on puberty blockers, which I think is extremely cool! I've retweeted a bunch so that you don't have to swim through the comments.
