Hey friends,
I owe you two newsletters this week, but I only have one newsletter's worth of podcast news. So! Here's a slideshow of flowers I've seen since coronavirus hit the US back in March. It's good to see that some of us are still thriving.
While we're here, here are some miscellaneous trans thoughts:
- My friends made an organization called the Trans Journalists Association and it's already making a positive change in newsrooms across the country and beyond. I'm so proud of them.
- This Jesse Singal subtweet is extremely satisfying to me.
- Did you hear that Halle Berry was going to play a trans man (maybe) and said some ignorant transphobic stuff about it, but then everyone was like "hey, Halle, don't do this" and so she apologized and is not, in fact, doing it?!?! Wow, the bar is in hell!
- A trans host at an NPR member station gracefully improvised their own correction today after the station shared a story that used transphobic language... and I'm just sitting here thinking about what it's like to have to publicly correct your colleagues on the spot because they don't yet know how to talk about your people like they're people. Anyway, good work, Nash.
- I'm intensely grateful to y'all for supporting my work. I know I'm spending way less time on Gender Reveal right now, and more time on Portland protest coverage. Both of these things feel essential. I appreciate your patience. I love you very much.
Enjoy the flowers. Maybe there's some where you live, too. Send pics.
xo,
Yr resident gender detective
PS: Here's your weekly Rhubarb
