Hey friends,
This is last week's newsletter. Oops.
Last week on the show, we did a quick overview of several notable pieces of trans news, including the fact that Boris Johnson may be blocking plans to make it easier to be declared legally trans in the UK (Did that sentence make sense? Here's an article.), the delightfully surprising SCOTUS LGBTQ ruling (which we talk more about this week on the show), and the tragic murders of Riah Milton, Dominique Fells, and Layleen Polanco Xtravaganza. (Layleen was killed by negligence/lack of medical care while in prison, but that counts as murder imo.)
I've included photos of Riah, Dominique and Layleen above. It makes me feel both better and worse to see photos of them when they were alive and thriving. All three of them were Black trans women between the ages of 25-27 when they were killed. I'm so fucking sad and mad.
I don't know if I've said "Black Lives Matter" on the podcast, but you know that, right? Black lives matter. Abolish police and prisons. Throw a brick at a cop. Etc.
After last week's This Week in Gender segment, we revisited our November 2019 live interview with activist Alyssa Pariah.

Alyssa's interview touches on pretty much every possible relevant topic, including Black Lives Matter (and the way that BLM shows up for trans lives better than most LGBTQ+ orgs) and the abolition of prison and police. If you haven't heard the interview before (or even if you have), I highly recommend it.

Last week's featured piece of limited-edition Pride merch is this "dropped out of Hogwarts" shirt by Sasha. 100% of proceeds go to the Okra Project and Transpose PDX. Grab one today if you're also mad at J. K. Rowling!
And hey. Thanks for sticking with me right know. I know I'm always apologizing because there's always something going on. 2020 is a lot. I'm doing my best and I love you so much for your patience and support. I hope you're hanging in there.
That's it for, uh, last week. Here's your weekly Rhubarb.

xo,
