Hey friends,
What can I say? I hope you're all hanging in there. I don't know what to do but I'm going to keep making podcasts about gender until y'all tell me to stop.

This week on the show, we spoke with Bangladeshi artist, organizer, and curator Farhat Rahman. Farhat is the creator of Moving Genders NYC (formerly CineDiaspora NYC), a film festival that centers the work of trans, gender nonconforming, and intersex people of color, with extra emphasis on South Asian and Muslim voices. They're also a 2019 Gender Reveal grant recipient.

I learned so much from Farhat about Bangladeshi gender roles and LGBTQ+ identities, as well as QTPOC representation in the film world. We also talk about Farhat's experience with trans youth and how it shapes our own outlooks. I hope you enjoy the episode if you haven't listened yet!

As you've heard, we also have a bunch of new merch in the shop, including Surf Don't TERF sweatshirts and mugs, Nature is Queer posters, and Support Trans Media tanks. All of these items will be up until April 1.
I realize that this is a challenging time for lots of people, and I'm definitely not expecting anyone to buy merch right now, but if it sparks joy for you, then go for it!

How are things where y'all live? We're pretty shut down here in Portland — restaurants and bars and libraries and offices are closed, and we're expected to get a "shelter in place"-type order on Monday. But last Wednesday, [it feels 100 years away already] I was able to bike across town, and I happened to see this pig chilling on a porch, and I just thought you might appreciate that. (Pigs don't need to social distance!)

Since many (if not all) of us are stuck at home right now, friend of the show Eden Rohatensky [of "gender is (not) a spooky ghost" fame] suggested that I do some kind of Gender Reveal livestream event. I'm down but also — and I cannot stress this enough — know nothing about live streaming. Does that sounds fun? What would it look like? What would I/we do on the stream? If you have ideas, let me know!

I'm home (duh) working on one or possibly two special ~episode 69~ interviews for y'all. My goal is to get something up early next week, so hopefully we'll talk soon. In the meantime, here's your weekly Rhubarb.
Stay safe, I love you.
xo,
