Season finale! Live show! Str8 "romance"? We go viral!

Friends! I finally made an episode!!!

This week on the podcast, I was thrilled to speak with journalist Lewis Raven Wallace. Lewis recently released an incredible book and podcast series, both called the View from Somewhere, about the myth of journalistic objectivity. It’s a topic we’ve talked about a lot this season, and I loved getting Lewis’s expert take on the obstacles faced by trans (and otherwise marginalized) journalists.

Lewis also talks about living in North Carolina, coming out in the previous millennium, identifying as a transsexual, and viewing gender as a universe in which we are all stars. It’s a really terrific chat and I can’t wait for you to listen. (Don’t forget to tell a friend, if you’re into that!)

In other news, I’m extremely excited to announce our first live show! The event will take place in Portland, Oregon on November 23 as part of the Trans Action and Care Conference at Portland State University. (Specifically, the show is from 2:30–3:30 p.m. at Smith Memorial Student Union Browsing Lounge, Room 238.) The show is FREE to attend and will feature at least one exciting surprise guest. See you there!

And in other news, our grant is still open until October 31! We’re giving away two $500 grants and at least two $250 grants (probably four, tbh) to non-cis folks who are doing rad work around gender education and/or trans support! Apply now at genderpodcast.com/grant, and spread the word in your community.

In merch news (OK, same as last week, so news-ish), we made fun accessories out of designs you already know and love. In addition to two terrific shirts, we now have, “what the hell is gender” mugs and tote bags, plus “support trans media” stickers! We also have a slew of other stickers and other fun stuff over at bit.ly/gendermerch.

We've already raised more than $600 for trans artists and LGBTQ orgs in our merch store this year! I'm so so happy and proud. Thank you all for being a part of this!

Meanwhile, online…. I went semi-viral twice this week and I’m very tired! The first iteration of virality started with a tweet about Indigenous Peoples' Day and ended with me raising roughly $1,200 to be distributed to more than 100 queer and trans Indigenous folks, which is rad as heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The second time around, I tweeted about how much I hate cis reporting and ….

..............

Actually, that’s probably how a few of y’all found us, huh? Welcome!

One last thing: I updated my website, mollywoodstock.com, including a more accurate bio and a mild refresh of the talks and consultations page. So, if you’ve ever thought about hiring me (or more likely, telling your bosses to hire me) for equity workshops or consults, hopefully this helps?

That’s it for today! Although, if you’re bored, Tehya and I are currently reading lists of “ways to be romantic” from google dot com, and I highly suggest it if you want to be very amused/incredibly appalled at the way that Straight People Are. (#notallstraightpeople). Suggestions include:

RIP the straights. Anyway, here’s your weekly Rhubarb. (Extremely good video version also attached.)

Xoxo,

Yr resident gender detective
