High school science! Live event! 40 miles of walking!

Friends! Breaking news! I'll be at Books with Pictures tomorrow, Wednesday, July 31st, at 7 pm, to do a lil interview with Gender Reveal guest Maia Kobabe. Come hang with us if you're in Portland, Oregon! I'll try to remember to bring stickers.

(It's also an extremely good opportunity to buy Maia's book, Gender Queer, which is hard to find because it's so so popular!)

(Photo stolen from here.)

This week on the podcast, BFF of the show Z Griffler interviewed Gender Reveal grant winner Sam Long! Sam is a high school biology teacher dedicated to making classes more diverse, more trans-affirming, and tbh more accurate. I learned sooooooo much from this interview — including how Nemo of Pixar fame is maybe trans? — and I hope you love it as much as I do!

In addition to queering high school curriculums, Sam also talked about his dream of becoming the first trans astronaut. Whaaaat? So rad. Big thanks to Z for editing the interview for me, as well.

We also had an HISTORIC This Week in Gender segment, but you'll just have to listen to the podcast to hear it. (Although tbh you probably already heard the news already.)

In other podcast news, we now have a die-cut sticker of unofficial Gender Reveal mascot Rhubarb Figg McBiteyface-Woodstock in the Gender Reveal merch store. Why?? Because GR logo designer Michelle Leigh said [paraphrasing] "Hey, I made this illustration of Ruby, put it on a sticker in the merch store," and what were we going to do? Say NO?!? Never! Anyway, here's the sticker. (She's perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

In non-podcast news, I spent the weekend hiking with a good friend of the show. We hiked 40 miles in 34 hours!!! It was so much!!! It was also extremely, extremely beautiful. You may have seen a zillion photos on Instagram, but here are a few just in case.

(The other person in these photos is friend of the show @karaontheoutside! Follow them if you're into, like, outside?)

Next week on the show... something will happen! Idk, y'all, I'm very tired, but very proud at this beautiful thing that we're building together. Thank you so much for being part of whatever this is. I love you very much.

xoxo,
Yr resident gender detective

PS: Here's your weekly Ruby in non-illustrated form.
