Mekadebinesikwe!

Friends! This week on the podcast, I speak with Kai Minosh Pyle (a.k.a. Mekadebinesikwe, a.k.a. ᒣᑲᑌᐱᓀᓯᑴ) about talking about two-spirit histories, myths, misconceptions, futures, and more. Kai is a real-life gender detective: they're working on a project about Anishinaabe two-spirit histories, which involves searching for words about gender in different Indigenous languages. It's an incredible interview and I hope you love it as much as I do!

In other podcast news, we have MERCH! It's a rotating collection of shirts, totes, stickers and more designed by trans/nonbinary artists. Fifty percent of profits goes to the artist and the other fifty percent gets donated to a nonprofit of the artist's choice, so you don't have to feel bad about throwing all your money at it! :P

If you'd like to contribute to the store, let us know! In the meantime, here are a few examples of our current selection of very goofy merchandise:

This g(end)er shirt by Beth Easton! Proceeds benefit Gendered Intelligence UK

This "gender is a spooky ghost" tote by bff of the show Z Griffler, based off of a quote from Eden Rohatensky's Gender Reveal interview

This pillow version of our logo for some reason! Proceeds benefit the Okra Project

These items will all disappear after a month or so, with more merch coming sooooon... but in the meantime, please keep Patreon-ing if you can, because I don't make money off of this goofy shit — it's just for fun and community-building and paying other trans people, my three favorite things!

In other podcast-adjacent news....................... I'm presenting at Third Coast this year! (Third Coast is the like, premier radio conference in the world, which sounds insufferable, I know, I'm sorry!) My extremely smart friend Cass Adair and I will be talking (in front of basically the entire radio industry) about how radio folks should, uh, listen to trans people?!? We only have six minutes to talk. That's three minutes each. I think we're just going to make a slideshow with this meme in it??????

In non-podcast news, I took a day off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took a dance class that I love, and then I went to the queer nude beach outside of Portland, and then I went to the queer vegan punk bar that I saw my therapist dating my date at that one time??? Anyway it was extremely very a lot good. Thanks for all of your emotional support and encouragement to sometimes not work!!!

[This is the part where I was going to put a photo of the beach trip, but they all have someone's tits in them and that seems vaguely inappropriate for a wholesome family newsletter.]

Well, instead, here's a your weekly picture of Rhubarb. She's a baby chonk!

Next week on the podcast, we'll featuring our first ever guest interviewer! Aforementioned bff of the show Z Griffler will be stepping in to interview one of our grant winners. I'm very excited to do less work!!! Wow!!!!!!! Stay tuned!!!!!!!!!!

That's it for me this week, but please do listen to that interview with Kai (and tell your friends!) Indigenous concepts of gender mean a lot to me, and they should mean a lot to all of us if we're ever going to decolonize anything and step away from the weird fake gender binary we're currently surrounded by. OK, I love you very much, bye!

xoxo,
Yr resident gender detective
