Nwaobiala! Backpacking! Hair today gone tomorrow!

Friends! This week on the show, I spoke with multimedia artist Nwaobiala about Nigerian queer histories, familial pressure, African LGBTQ media, gender roles at Catholic boarding school, whether "feminine energy" is a thing, and moooore.

Nwaobiala uses collage, among other mediums, to explore queer Nigerian experiences. They have so much vibrant creative energy and I can't wait to see what they do next!

In the interview, Nwaobiala lists a wonderful array of African LGBTQ books, films, and artists. Two that have stuck with me are She Called Me Woman: Nigeria's Queer Women Speak, which I now very much want to read, and Rafiki, a beautiful film about two young queer Kenyan women that I saw (and loved) last year.

Rafiki!!!! It's cute!!! You should see it!!! Support art about queer Black women if you can please thank you!!!!!

In non-podcast news, I shaved my head.

I'm very insecure about it because it makes me feel less cute but also much more powerful?!? Also mayyyybe it feels better gender-wise but also what is gender??

In other other news, BFF of the show Z Griffler and I just spent a few days backpackin' around on a short stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail. Here are a few photos of queers in the wild, the content we all deserve.

(Day two was kind of wet but still very fun! I ate so many chips!)

Next week on the podcast, I thiiiiiink I'll be sharing my interview with the wonderful Callie Wright, host of the podcast Queersplaining. Subscribe if you haven't and support Callie's important work, plz.

I think that's it for today, unless you want me to make a list of all the chips I ate in order of how good they were (I'm only barely restraining myself lol). Thanks for reading and thanks for listening to the podcast. I love you!
