Friends! This week on the podcast, I chat with the wonderful author and illustrator Maia Kobabe (e/em/eir) about neopronouns, asexuality, Harry Potter, "deserving" top surgery, the importance of telling trans stories, and much much more. (Or, in other words, low inventory at the orgasm store, recycling your breasts at the Goodwill, and coming out to your first Girl Scout troop.) Maia is so warm and kind and thoughtful and smart and I hope you love it!
Maia will be at (the fabulous queer, feminist comic book shop) Books With Pictures in Portland, Oregon, July 31 for an evening of reading, signing and visiting. We both hope to see you there! If you can't make it, I strongly suggest getting your hands on Maia's memoir, Gender Queer. It's out of stock most places right now, but more copies should exist soonπ€
In the meantime, here are a few of my favorite pages and panels from Gender Queer, which I had the genuine pleasure of reading as a bunch of printed-out loose pages back before the book came out. (Now that I think of it, I should tape some of those pages to my walls. Instant art!)

In other news, this episode marks our 50th episode of Gender Reveal!?!?!? I'm so incredibly proud of the first fifty episodes of this show, and I'm deeply, immensely grateful for all of the love and support and help and encouragement and general good gay vibes that I've received from all of you along the way. I would never ever have made it to this point without your emotional and financial support. Above all, thanks for listening!!!!!!!!
Next week on the podcast, I'm introducing everyone to one of our Gender Reveal grant winners, experimental artist Nwaobiala. I strongly recommend checking out their vibrant, creative work ahead of their short interview!

Since you're already here on Patreon, I wanted to let you know that you can support Maia's work at patreon.com/maiakobabe. In fact, most of our guests have their own Patreon, because it turns out it's hard to be trans & queer artists and activists under capitalism.
I'm going to spend the rest of this newsletter showing you photos of the animals who currently live in my house, because I just got a new phone with portrait mode and I can't stop taking glamour shots of my dog-sister and cat-child. You're welcome.

That last one is actually me (obviously) in the biggest dog bed I've ever seen. OK byeeee i love you be safe!!!!!
xoxo,
