Morgan Givens, trans kids, immigration, and my dog sister.

Friends! Pride is almost over, but the good news is that we get to be queer and trans all year round!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a gift!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week on the podcast, I'm delighted to share my chat with storyteller, writer, and audio producer Morgan Givens. Among many other things, Morgan is the creator of the acclaimed Flyest Fables podcast, a family-friendly fiction show that's totally unlike any other podcast I've ever heard.

Morgan is an incredibly thoughtful and charming person, and I loved hearing him talk about everything from battling depression and becoming your own role model to the ethical responsibilities of telling Black and trans stories. He also shares what he wish he had known about the side effects of testosterone — like, male privilege, sure, but also menopause and, uh, forgetting how to spell?!?!

There's a LOT more that we talk about, but you'll have to listen for yourself if you haven't already! We're still conveniently located in the Spotify Pride hub as well as every other podcast place.

In other news, my dog-sister Maddy is visiting this week, so I'm running around taking care of her (and Rhubarb the cat) while also doing a day job and making podcasts and doing consulting gigs and also being quite sick! It's a romp. Maddy is a very good girl.

Speaking of consulting, I gave a three-hour workshop at Reed College this week, and it went super well. What a refreshing treat to speak with cis people who are genuinely invested in supporting trans youth(!?!!)

And speaking of THAT: Passionfruit is offering free shipping on all of their very trans merch until the end of June! They're not sponsoring anything, I'm just excited about this hat that I bought. (Hats are my gender, if you know you know.)

(You can buy a shirt that's like this but in a different font? So there's that. And yes this IS Don Cheadle on Saturday Night Live, what a time to be alive.)

WHAT ELSE. I was part of Pocket Cast's Q&A on LGBTQ Voices in Podcasting; I talked too much; hopefully you don't hate it??? Feel free to not read it ever.

ALSO, as always, thank you so so so so so much for supporting trans media! I know I say it all the time but I'm just extremely grateful, okay?! I hope you love the podcast enough that you don't mind that the newsletters are nonsense.

On a related note: this week, I donated $100 to the LGBTQ Freedom Fund, which posts bail for LGBTQ folks in jail and immigrant detention. Their work specifically includes posting bail for trans asylum seekers caught up in the nightmare of the current US immigration system.  If you can also donate a few bucks, great! If not, know that your donations to Gender Reveal give me the security to support initiatives like this! Win-win. Thank you. I love you.

Here's your weekly photo of Rhubarb, who remains a perfect baby angel.

Next week on the podcast, we most likely hear from Maia Kobabe, author of Gender Queer! I've spoken about Maia in previous editions of the newsletter, and I'm excited to share eir smart and good thoughts with our listeners. (We have so many smart and good guests!! Amazing!!)

xoxo,
Yr resident gender detective

PS: The last paragraph of this newsletter has been edited from its original version. I make a lot of mistakes!
