Katelyn Burns & the New York Times

Friends, I have written this newsletter three (3) times, and every time, Patreon has deleted it instead of saving it. It is now very late at night and I don't know how to summon the energy to type all of these things again! But here are some very abbreviated and messy thoughts:

- THIS WEEK ON THE PODCAST, I interviewed Katelyn Burns, the first openly trans reporter on Capitol Hill. I have typed this spiel so many times at this point, but basically, Katelyn tells us a lot of smart things about trans reporting and trans athletes and national politics and that bad New York Times binding article and MORE. She's really good. Please just trust me and listen to the podcast. I'm so tired. I swear this paragraph was better an hour ago.

- I was misquoted in the New York Times talking about — what else — gender reveal cakes. But Gender Reveal got a shout out, so it's not all bad! I don't think you need to read the article, but every time I upload a screenshot, the newsletter dies, so here's a link I guess ugh

(Also, please weigh in, should I tell the story about being blatantly misgendered by the NYT on the podcast? Or should I stop feuding with the national paper of record?)

- Merch: I'm trying to make it. Do you know any online stores that have inclusive sizing AND gender-neutral clothing options AND will handle all the shipping for me, a person who can't handle the shipping because they're busy writing the same newsletter three times? Thank you love you.

- This is the only video I ever want to watch for the rest of my life and I refuse to apologize. CAN YOU REMEMBER THE TALLEST MAN YOU'VE EVER SEEN????

- It was my one-year friendship anniversary with my best Portland pal Tehya yesterday! Have you ever had a first date at a post-Pride after party and then become good platonic-type pals instead and then they move into your house with their good good partner and cat? And then their cat becomes best friends with your cat???????? 11/10 would recommend. (Anyway, that's a photo of us at the Portland Trans March last weekend, and here's a photo of our bff cats.)

- I have more things to say but I am scared that I'm going to lose this whole newsletter again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So let me just say that I deeply deeply appreciate each and every one of you who recently joined the Patreon, who upped their pledge to help us meet our goal, or who have stuck with this Patreon for a long long time. You're all my heroes and I appreciate you so much and I don't even know how to express how honored I am that you would support and trust me like this!!!!!!! I am doing my best to put good, life-affirming trans art into the world and I hope you like it and I'm sorry that sometimes my newsletters are both late and delirious.

My last Patreon goal, which is big and far away, is to have enough money to be a full-time professional gender detective. Maybe one day that will happen and I can start writing newsletters before 10pm. In the meantime, thank you, I love you, I'm sorry I'm like this, thank you for sharing this wild trans space with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

xoxo,

Yr favorite gender detective
