Happy Pride!

Also, the president of the United States pretended to care about LGBT folks while simultaneously taking basic human rights away from the T part. Also, the New York Times wrote a fear-mongering, terf-quoting, ROGD-supporting, nonsense article about binders that's honestly too bad to link to. (A fun reminder that I am extremely available to teach newsrooms and other organizations how to not do this.)
BUT ALSO, it's the gayest and transest of months, and we're all still here running around in our nonbinary-made Be Gay Do Crime skeleton tanks and drinking iced coffee and living our best lives. At least, that's what I hope we're all doing.
Speaking of, uh, joy, thanks so so much to everyone who reached out after last week's newsletter with an encouraging word! Despite all evidence to the contrary, I don't actually love being vulnerable on the internet, but your overwhelming support really helped. At everyone's advice, I am not starting Season Four tomorrow — but I am starting it next Monday! Probably! Cross your fingers!
Instead of making an episode, I spent the week combing through 80(!) applications for our first BIPOC-only Gender Reveal grant. I'm delighted to say that thanks to the generosity of a couple extra-special listeners (Jery and Robyn, thank you!!), our selection committee was able to offer six grants instead of the expected four. That's $1200 in grants to trans people of color!!!!!!
Thank you so much to every single one of you for your financial support — there's no way we'd ever be able to offer the grant program without you, and it means more than I can say to be able to do this. I can't wait to introduce you to all of our grant winners in future episodes!
In other podcast news, I recently interviewed Capitol Hill reporter Katelyn Burns. (Among other things, I asked her about Trump's wild LGBT tweet and the NYT's wild binding article. So topical, wow!) Katelyn was a delight to chat with, and I can't share all of her wisdom with you soon soon soon. In the meantime, you can follow her on Twitter @transscribe.
In personal news, Ruby explored our deck, and I saw more good flowers.

Also, my roommate shared a internet meme/challenge thing where you share five of the notes in your Notes app without context. Here are four of mine, just for fun.

(For the record: I know my battery was at 1% and I know I could put my pap smear in my calendar! Also I'm claiming Leisure Trash as a new band name, don't steal it or I'll fight you!)
Well, this has certainly been another.... something. See you next week for ... maybe a podcast???? Happy Pride!
xoxo,
Yr favorite gender detective
PS: While you're waiting for a new episode, the Pride-themed Gender Reveal eps with Mal Blum and Matt Lubchansky are very very good.
