I missed that. Like I figured she liked girls, but that that wasn't the sole reason.
2021-06-14 03:07:31 +0000 UTCi think the core reason that she couldn't marry him in the end is that she's a lesbian, which i notice you didn't mention so maybe it was just kind of subtle or you assumed that she was bisexual or something, but throughout the episode there are hints at this being the true cause behind her guilt/shame/etc. like she clearly loved edmund with all her heart, i mean they were literally best friends from childhood, but she couldn't continue to suppress the part of herself she's been trying to ignore her whole life. like after the kiss when the narrator says dani's been telling herself to 'wait another night, another time, for years and years.' and during the break-up scene when she says she 'should've said something sooner' but she thought she could 'stick it out and eventually feel' what she was 'supposed to,' and that she loves eddie 'even still.' also another clue to her lesbianism is earlier in the episode when the lady was helping her with her dress and you can definitely feel this sort of sexual tension when she lays her hand on dani's back, all while in the background the mother and others were talking about how lucky eddie was to have dani, etc. she clearly felt such guilt over her being a lesbian that she was trying to push it all away in order to marry her best friend because of how much she loved him. it's so heart-breaking because it really wasn't either of their faults, and they never were able to reconcile with each other and talk everything out because of the accident immediately after.
