Haunting of Hill House ep. 5 UNEDITED REACTION

Comments

Yeah. I know you put a lot there but I do agree with all of it lol. I do think the more than natural connection with Luke makes it a bit more complicated. Someone said in the comments that perhaps she thought there might be some effect from her drugs with him, but idk

omg, that's terrible. Did you ever find a way to deal with it?? Like was some of the treatment in this episode legit?

I absolutely love this episode (obviously - this entire show is friggin amazing). But I just wanted to comment specifically on the sleep paralysis. I've dealt with that condition since I was a kid and it's absolutely terrifying. I love how they melded something that so many people don't even know exists in real life into this story. The really great part is how they tied it into the "ghosts" being seen. I believe in ghosts. Not ashamed to admit it. And during several of my sleep paralysis attacks, I saw figures and felt hands touching me and even once felt hands around my throat, choking me. I'm pretty agnostic when it comes to the unknown in life - and that extends to this as well. Maybe they are just hallucinations, but I've always felt like there was more to it. Either way, it doesn't matter. It's just so fascinating all together. I love this show. Sleep paralysis? Freaking hate it. Wish there was a cure lol. Loving your reactions!

Seriously one of the most devastating hours of television I have ever watched. My heart just kept sinking scene after scene. The Bent Neck lady was never a ghost. That's why Luke who sees ghosts or the Dad or any of them NEVER saw her when they were kids. Nell has sleep paralysis, a real medical condition. I believe that her sleep paralysis allowed her to consciously access parts of the mind that we typically only access in sleep. I think the house is a supernatural hotspot and that combined with the sleep paralysis and the fact that all the people in the family are a bit "sensitive" allowed Nelly to see her own death. If Nelly isn't in a state of sleep paralysis she doesn't see the BNL until AFTER traumatic/stressful events occur. Since we know the bent neck lady is Nelly, she never would have hurt Arthur. Arthur REALLY DID DIE from an aneurism. A random act of fate that nothing could have changed. Sometimes people just die and there is no reason. Nelly needed there to be a reason, needed someone to blame so she blamed the BNL Nelly is also legitimately mentally ill I believe that is due to traumatic events that occurred in her childhood. (kinda like the little girl that Theo helped in 1x3) She should have been on medication and her lousy ass shrink didn't bother to blood test her and then suggested to his possibly (likely) unmedicated manic patient to go confront a source of trauma, the house. Please someone take away this man's medical license.

I thought it was because when she was on her meds she stopped seeing the bent neck lady for a time but as soon as she saw it again she figured the meds didn't do anything.

Just wanted to say, the part where Nellie stops taking her meds is probably because, since she is connected to Luke, if she takes medicine Luke is indirectly on drugs and cannot get sober for real.
