As an addict Joey's speech felt like a relief. Someone earlier spoke on the other side and they're totally right. It's fucking unfair to the people around you. It's a terrible situation but it's not often I get to see what the cycle really feels like and what the incremental triumphs are like along the way. This show continues to impress me with its nuance, glad you enjoyed it!

Well, first, thank you for sharing. But yeah, from some of the experiences I've had, I think the same.

Whoa. See this is why I like the show. It has such insane attention to detail

Okay so Luke was going through the effects of rigor mortis. He was experiencing what a human body (Nell) experiences after death. Going cold... the body going stiff, etc Oh also the "twin thing" is a real thing that a lot of twins do actually experience. I've known and heard of lots of twins who felt pain when the other got hurt or they knew something was wrong. No one I think quite knows how it works, but it is an actual phenomenon.

I do want to say, about Steven, as someone with.... many many many addicts in my family (Its sort of a thing. I come from a family addicted to both drugs and alcohol, my dad in fact is in his room drinking right now, my mom was a drug addict tho she's been clean for a long time), I totally get where he's coming from. I have to watch my dad drink every day. He was sober for a month and it was the best month I've had with him in years, and then he started drinking again. Seeing someone, especially someone you love, continuously do it is really hard on everyone else too. It's different battles. Of course, people going through the actual addiction deserve support, but supporters only have so much support to give before it gets to be too much on them, and it's their choice, and should be their choice on whether or not they can keep doing it. Especially in this case where Luke brings Joey. Steven has given all of his support to Luke again and again and he does that because it's his brother, but that doesn't mean he can give support to some random girl that Luke brings in for, as far as he knows, will just pull his brother down again eventually. It's just too much to ask for him, but ofc Luke sees a girl who has been there for him. And the definition for insanity... honestly I've seen this show so many times but it just hit me how that could more appropriately fit Steven in this case. Joey explained it well, each day for an addict in recovery is different, a different battle, but Steven has been stood at Luke's side each and every time, doing the exact same things to try and help his brother out of this, and each and every time (and we don't know how many times), Luke has slipped. Steven is the one doing the same thing over and over again by supporting Luke, and expecting different results. It's such a tough situation and I understand both sides, but I wanted to add my take on Steven's side as someone who has been surrounded by addicts literally my entire life (since I was a child, and I'm 27 now, so over 20 years). It's really hard to ask someone to deal with, and really painful.
