Unsure if this has been said before, but the house in the beginning was the Riddles house. The old man Voldemort killed was Frank Bryce, who was accused of killing the 3 Riddles still living in the house at that time, many years before his death. This is all explained and more in the beginning of the fourth book.

2021-02-14 03:09:17 +0000 UTCYeah there are other wizarding schools also Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are co-ed in the books. Ilvermorny is the American wizarding school. They take a lot from Hogwarts like they also have 4 houses: Horned Serpent represents the mind and favored scholars, Wampus represent the body and favored warriors, Thunderbird represents the soul and favored adventurers, Pukwudgie represents the heart and favored healers. However, the sorting is different (this is done by standing in front of statues and them reacting to you) if more than one house wants you then you get to choose which house to go to. The full story on how it was formed is really cool.
