Dear Patrons,
Today we have the pleasure to announce the start of Painting Season at The FAA Collective!
While last season was everything drawing this one is all about painting. But what kind? “Painting” is a broad genre, and to ensure you the best content we can, our special focus will be on the art of the still life.
Historically, the particular selection of objects for a still life by the painter has been used to convey far more complex symbolic and narrative meanings based on the specific objects, their relation to each other and the overall composition, and more. Be it a natural depiction of food on a surface, a Dutch Golden Age styled vanitas painting, a floral arrangement, an elaborate Trompe-l’oiel, and others beyond and in-between, still life artworks hold an important place in the history of art as well as in the contemporary art world.
We have very special content coming your way this spring - all painting themed!

Get ready for our third Artistic Challenge, all on STILL LIFES!
Join our Art Student, Art Collector, Patron or Benefactor tiers to take part in this competition. We will be accepting entries of a still life either drawn, painted or sculpted in any medium! Full details on how to apply will be announced very soon here on Patreon.
The winner of our Artistic Challenge #3 will receive an exclusive fine art print featuring a drawing by FAA principal instructor Marco Franco and a shoutout from The Florence Academy of Art on social media!

This season we will release an exclusive video lecture series given by Tom Richards, FAA Assistant Director, resident Art Historian, and painter, on the famed and controversial artist Caravaggio.
These lectures will follow the artist throughout his life, starting in the eponymous little village of Caravaggio near Milan in 1571. From his studies with Simone Peterzano to travels through Florence, Rome, and Naples, we begin to examine how his instruction and the artworks he’d have seen could have influenced the works he was making and would make throughout his life. Together we’ll learn what makes the artworks by the “Master of Light and Shadow” so unique by focusing on composition, narrative, symbology, and historical context.
Although no one can claim to say precisely why an artist’s work perseveres through the annals of time, this lecture series attempts to shine a little light on the, at times very dark, life and work of Caravaggio.

Throughout this Painting season on The FAA Collective we will be spotlighting several paintings by FAA Collective artists, showcasing different types of still life paintings being made by working artists today.
We have reached out to several FAA Alumni with questions about their work, and over the next few months we will be publishing interviews with artists such as Carlos Madrid, Sarah Margaret Gibson, Jacky Chan, Dana Zaltzman and more!
