Materials w/ Jessica Keiser - Toning paper with charcoal powder

Materials review from The Florence Academy of Art Alumni featured on The FAA Collective Patreon

Today it’s all about Charcoal!

We had the pleasure of receiving our brand new Materials review directly from the UK, by FAA graduate Jessica Keiser.

Jessica was always intensely interested in art. Although she was a philosophy major in college, she eventually found her way back to the canvas, and, through much searching, concluded her fine arts studies in painting at The Florence Academy of Art in 2007.

The drawings by Jessica featured in this review remind us of one of her favorite quotes by Gustave Courbet, "The Beautiful is in nature, and it is encountered under the most diverse forms of reality. Once it is found it belongs to art, or rather to the artist who discovers it.” In this video we learn all about how Jessica uses charcoal powder, while she demonstrates how to hand tone paper and the drawing techniques she uses to create her work.
