An Installment in the Art History related content on The FAA Collective Patreon Page
Dear Patrons,
Thank you for your continued support! We hope this message finds you well during this difficult moment for many due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
This week on The FAA Collective we would like to present you with an Art History Lecture given by Tom Richards, Assistant Director of The Florence Academy of Art, on the Spanish painter Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez. Born in 1599, Velàzquez was a contemporary of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Anthony van Dyck, and became a leading painter in the court of King Philip IV of Spain He is considered to be one of the most important painters of the Spanish Golden Age and one of the most influential painters of his time. In this lecture Tom guides us through the career of Velázquez from his early work onwards and discusses his progression as a painter and how he was impacted by his travels, various works of art, and mentors.
We hope you thoroughly enjoy this video lecture and would like to remind you that although Friday Art History Lectures are not currently in progress at The Florence Academy of Art due to the suspension of all schools during Italy’s lockdown, information on when they will return can be gained through bulletins posted on The FAA’s social media and e-newsletter.
For our patrons in Italy and those choosing to stay at home for whatever reason during this time we invite you to join The Florence Academy of Art “A View From Your Room” Competition https://www.instagram.com/p/B9mtHdmqViC/.
